Our Story
The early stages of what would eventually become the First Baptist Church of South Euclid began in October of 1964 when a group of parishioners from Southwest Baptist Church of Bedford Heights began to meet in homes for Sunday worship. The hope of these parishioners was to plant a church in the Cleveland Heights area.
In anticipation of God’s work, the small congregation purchased three acres in the South Euclid area in October of 1965. God moved quickly for the congregation with Southwest Baptist granting approval to constitute as Height Baptist in March of 1966 and ground breaking for a new church in July of 1968.
Worship services moved out of homes and into the YMCA of Cleveland Heights for over four and a half years before settling into their very own sanctuary. On Easter Sunday of 1969 Height Baptist celebrated its inaugural worship service.
Over the next twenty years the small church saw the addition of a fellowship room and kitchen as well as an entire classroom wing. In 1984 Height Baptist and Mt Calvary Church of Euclid merged and renamed the church to First Baptist Church of South Euclid.
